Public universities in Singapore are supported by the government, with a small number of schools and very high admission requirements. Hence, it is difficult for international students to successfully apply to public universities in Singapore, unless their own conditions are very good and their grades are particularly excellent.

If you cannot successfully apply for a public university in Singapore, it is recommended that you consider private schools in Singapore. The threshold for private schools in Singapore is relatively low. From a professional perspective, graduates of many popular majors such as finance, tourism, and hotel management also have broader employment prospects than graduates from public institutions that focus on science and engineering.

All in all, I suggest that students who are interested in studying in Singapore should not blindly pursue famous schools and public institutions when choosing a school for studying abroad. It is better to choose a school and major that suits them.

  • 1. Check Edutrust Certification
  • 2. Look at the ranking of overseas universities that the school cooperates with
  • 3. Reference University Rankings
  • 4. Look at the future development
  • 5. Choose a school based on your actual situation
  • 6. Consult professional study abroad agents

1. Check Edutrust Certification

In order to strengthen the management and supervision of private universities in Singapore, the Council for Private Education Singapore (CPE) launched the EduTrust Certification Scheme (EduTrust) in 2010. When choosing a Singapore school, you need to see whether the institution has this certification. Only schools with this certification have the legal right to recruit international students, and the interests of international students can be fully guaranteed.

2. Look at the ranking of overseas universities that the school cooperates with

Most private universities in Singapore have established partnerships with well-known overseas universities such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. The undergraduate and master’s degrees of private schools are awarded by well-known universities in third-party countries. When choosing these schools, you should pay attention to the status and cooperative reputation of the partner universities to avoid falsehoods and asymmetric information.

3. Reference University Rankings

The recognized world university rankings are as follows:

  • QS World University Rankings;
  • THE Times Higher Education World University Rankings;
  • ARWU Shanghai Jiaotong University World University Ranking;
  • U.S.NEWS World University Rankings.

Each of them has reference value, and QS is more recommended. Students can take a look at the QS university rankings and professional rankings, and choose a suitable interval according to their own background. When choosing schools, attention should be paid to the status and cooperative reputation of partner universities, and false and asymmetric information should be avoided.

4. Look at the future development

You also need to choose a school according to the graduation plan. If you plan to return to your home country for development, domestic recruitment will pay more attention to the university ranking. If you plan to immigrate, you can give priority to the professional ranking.

5. Choose a school based on your actual situation

School selection is still based on the actual situation of the applicant. Students’ language scores and GRE scores, these hardware conditions are all factors that schools examine, so when choosing a school, these factors must be considered.

Secondly, some school majors require students to have certain relevant work experience, so students and fresh graduates should avoid such school majors. In a word, when choosing a school, you’d better avoid schools with special background requirements.

6. Consult professional study abroad agents

Most of the students are studying abroad for the first time. They do not understand the application process and requirements of the school. They are busy improving their background and sprinting to the famous schools. Therefore, they need to choose a professional study abroad agency. They only need to tell the consultant teacher about their personal background, and the teacher will quickly refer to previous years’ application cases to plan a reasonable plan for them. To quickly find a reliable agent, you can make use of the Agent Finder.
